ASTM Vibration testing is a standardized test method used to assess the performance and reliability of products in a vibrational environment and can be used to assess the performance of containers with internal packaging and closure means, including their strength and protection of their contents when subjected to vibrations such as those experienced during transportation.

The ASTM D999 standard covers vibration testing of container packages of various types, materials, internal structures, packaging methods, sizes, and weights. The standard provides four specific test methods to comprehensively evaluate the performance of containers under different vibration conditions
1.Repetitive impact test (vertical motion) – These tests are applicable to the testing of individual containers transported unconstrained within the vehicle compartment. These tests are applicable to containers subjected to repeated impacts due to vibration amplification in unit loads or stacking.
2: Repeated impact test (rotational motion) – This method is the same as method A1, except for vibration motion. Although there are similarities, the results of these two methods may not be interrelated.
3.Single container resonance test – This method is very suitable for individual containers and their internal packaging to protect the items inside the container from vibration. Vibration is generated during transportation, with a focus on resonance response.
4.Tray loading, unit loading, or vertical resonance testing – This method focuses on the resonance frequency of tray loading and multi unit stacking loading. The purpose is to determine whether the strength of the container is sufficient to withstand the dynamic loads during stacking.

The platform should be supported by a vibrating mechanism so that its motion approximates the vertical sinusoidal input. The double-amplitude displacement of the vibration should be fixed or controlled to 1 inch.
